I once turned a canoe on the Zambezi into a speed boat with my paddling effort alone, when a rather large crocodile came out the water and hit the side of the canoe, right next to me. I am still here today and love the river.

The vastness, thrill and beauty by flying in a helicopter without doors over the Okavango Delta. Watching the wildlife from above and landing in the middle of nowhere, celebrating life and sipping champagne.

I have been mesmerized walking the streets of Old Jerusalem, humbled by the beautiful architecture of golden domed churches in Moscow, and captivated by a Burchell sandgrouse collecting water in its wings for it’s chicks, at a water pan in Hwange National Park.

I am a born and bred Zimbabwean. I am naturally biased towards my home country, but I love all of Africa’s wild spaces. Growing up here, but also travelling and working abroad for a number of years has taught me to appreciate why I love this continent above all others. After spending my first 18 years learning to love the wild, I studied Zoology and then decided to mix that with tourism – the link between the two in Africa is obvious. I met Suzanne, we fell in love, we worked for some of the best in the business, and we dreamt of offering our own signature luxury safaris to the world’s most discerning travellers. We now live that dream every day! We also give back through the Zambesia Conservation Alliance, which we co-founded with my brother Robin. Without Africa’s wild spaces and the incredible communities that live alongside them we have nothing and so it is our duty to play our part in their protection. We teach our two special daughters this message often!

What Makes Africa Special?
Africa is wild, pure and full of spectacular surprises. It never offers up a dull moment and life this way feels full of flavour. Things somehow smell, taste, look, sound and ultimately feel better here. It’s easier to connect with one’s soul through the abundance of the natural world around us.

Memorable Experience
Too many to count, but I once turned a canoe on the Zambezi into a speed boat with my paddling effort alone, when a rather large crocodile came out the water and hit the side of the canoe, right next to me. I am still here today and love the river.

I was born and raised in a picturesque village in the Netherlands where many hours were spent my five sisters in the countryside, cycling and appreciating nature. Although I have a deep fondness for Europe, with its rich history and diversity, I yearned to see more of the world. After high-school my life of travel started by moving to the Rocky Mountains in Canada. Now, many years later, I have studied, worked & lived in four different continents and travelled to many places around the globe. I love learning about different cultures, traditions, languages and sampling culinary arts & flavours. For the past 15 years my travels are no longer solo as I crossed paths with Luke in the desert sands of the UAE. From the day we met, we have been enjoying our explorations together and a few years later our two girls came along on the journey.

What Makes Africa Special?
The people, The landscape, The wildlife, The Sunsets.
I simply love immersing myself in the great outdoors. Taking the easy route is not part of my itinerary as I chose the road less travelled. Creating memorable experiences by venturing into the unknown is where the true happiness and fulfilment for the soul can be found Although I am not from Africa, I call it my home.

MEMORY SALIMU

DESTINATION SPECIALIST

I am privileged to call Zimbabwe’s Tourism hub, Victoria Falls, my home – it has been for just under a decade. The atmosphere around the Majestic Zambezi River and the Mighty Mosi oa Tunya is one that brings a warm “fuzziness” to the soul; coupled with the rich culture, hospitality and diversity that is seen and felt from the people, what is there not to love. My two young boys are not any difference, they are warm and hospitable, with their photographer father always close by to capture the smiles.

What Makes Africa Special?
I am a true Africa enthusiast and the years I have spent working through safari itineraries has helped me appreciate this one truth – Africa captivates your soul. The spectacular wildlife and birdlife, the dramatic landscapes, the rich traditions, the culinary experiences and wines and the breathtaking sunsets – Africa absolutely changes you forever.

MADRÉ VILJOEN

OPERATIONS SPECIALIST

I am privileged to have been living in Zimbabwe for the past 32 years, and to call Victoria Falls my home. I am happily married with two adult children. As a family we LOVE the bush.

What Makes Africa Special?
For me the essence of Africa is captured in a summer thunderstorm, which epitomizes the variety of Africa: the smells, the soft light, the crackling thunder and piercing lightning, and the quick and thankful response from her soils. I love being immersed in Africa’s wild, contrasting and often surprising beauty.

Memorable Experience
I find it hard to choose: I have been mesmerized walking the streets of Old Jerusalem, humbled by the beautiful architecture of golden domed churches in Moscow, and captivated by a Burchell sandgrouse collecting water in its wings for it’s chicks, at a water pan in Hwange National Park.

GUEST LIAISON
(ON THE GROUND)

Before I am a travel enthusiast or a musician I am a hopeless romantic who has fallen in love with Africa’s colors, textures, sounds, tastes, nature and cultures. I am in awe of this magnificent place I call home and it brings me great joy to share the little I have seen of it with others.

What Makes Africa Special?
It is very easy to settle on the global fact that Africa is a single continent. A single geographical territory which upon mentioning evokes very specific, almost stereotypical ideas, expectations, imagery or emotions to many if not most people from outside of this vast land. A fascinating yet less exposed truth is that Africa is as diverse as it is massive. North to South, Central, East to West it is home to over three thousand tribes who speak a staggering two thousand or so languages. Its difficult fathom the vast spectrum of cultures, history and potential presented by such a place. Imagine the landscapes, flora and fauna, the tastes and smells of this landmass. All of this and how its people have and continue to interact with it.
